Medical Care
Although each physician at Women's OB-GYN has his
or her own patients, we work as a team. What this means
is a physician is always available for obstetrical delivery,
office care, hospital care or telephone consultation.
Women's OB-GYN also ensures round-the-clock emergency
care. Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, someone
is available to handle emergency calls at Covenant HealthCare,
Harrison.
During a physician’s emergency shift, no regular
appointments will be scheduled. Instead, his or her time
is dedicated to emergency care for patients, from delivering
babies to treating other problems at the hospital.
Because we have an emergency physician on call, your
visit to the hospital emergency room may not be necessary.
Please call us before going to the E.R.
Patient Education and Preventive Medicine
We believe in the old adage, "an ounce of prevention
is worth a pound of cure". Therefore, patient education
and preventive medicine are important aspects of our
practice philosophy.
You need to understand the nature of your illness
or condition and the basis of our medical recommendations.
We ask that you read all information materials given
to you by our staff, and we encourage you to ask questions.
We want you to feel comfortable with our medical staff
and confident with your care.
Screening
In accordance with The American Cancer Society guidelines,
physicians at Women's OB-GYN will recommend screening
tests for breast cancer, cervical cancer and colon cancer.
You will be asked to schedule these tests, as well
as any other laboratory tests that need to be performed.
Test results will be called to you if a significant abnormality
exists, unless your physician makes other arrangements.
If you wish, you may call for normal test results as
well. Please allow at least seven business days following
the test date before calling for the results. Normal
test results will be mailed to you as well.
Obstetrical Care
Proper obstetrical care is very important to your
health and the health of your baby. Obstetrical care
at Women's OB-GYN begins with three appointments. The
first appointment will be with our OB Coordinator, Becky
Gruenberg, R.N. The second
appointment is for your physical examination. Normally
this appointment will be immediately following your appointment
with the OB Coordinator. Total time involved for these
two appointments will be approximately one to one and
one-half hour. Your third appointment will be with one
of our physicians. At that appointment an ultra sound
will be performed for dating purposes. You are encouraged
to bring any family members you may wish to your obstetrical
appointments. We realize that this is a very important
time for each of you.
